Rabat has been a pirate stronghold, breakaway republic, Imperial City and today's capital, Rabat and has changed a great deal during its 700 year history. It has a population 1.2 million, is the capital of the Kingdom of Morocco. It is also the capital of the Rabat-Salé-Zemmour-Zaer region.

Rabat

Modern Rabat is clean and open, and there are both old Muslim quarters as well as beautiful remains from all periods of Moroccan history. It is the second biggest city after Casablanca, and is famous for all the historical monuments and the luxurious carpets and rich embroidery in its fascinating markets.

For a capital city, Rabat is very quiet and offers a number of excellent restaurants, clubs and pubs. The Medina is home to a few very good every day cafe-restaurants. The restaurants here are moderately priced and inexpensive.

Visitors can watch the changing of the Royal Guard at the Royal Palace on Friday mornings, stroll through the narrow streets of the Casbah des Oudaya, and visit the 12th-century Tour Hassan.

A great place to visit is Bouknadel and the amazing gardens, Jardins Exotiques, and also Chellah, which has interesting museums, a 17th-century fortress, and Roman ruins.

Unfortunately we have sold all our developments in Rabat, check back at a later time or leave your email on the property enquiry form and we'll let you know.
